  2. How can we understand the meaning of semantics when reading a discourse that has many words of language?

    BalasHapus
    Balasan
    1. Hii danita, Discourse analysis is sometimes defined as the analysis of 'beyond the sentence' language. This contrasts with types of analysis more typical of modern linguistics, which are chiefly concerned with the study of grammar: the study of smaller bits of language, such as sounds (phonetics and phonology), parts of words (morphology), meaning (semantics) , and the order of words in sentences (syntax). Discourse analysts study larger chunks of language as they flow together.

      Some discourse analysts consider the larger discourse context in order to understand how it affects the meaning of the sentence. For example, Charles Fillmore points out that two sentences are taken together as a single discourse can have different meanings from each one taken separately. To illustrate, he asks you to imagine two independent signs at a swimming pool: "Please use the toilet, not the pool," says one. The other announces, "Pool for members only." If you regard each sign independently, they seem quite reasonable. But taking them together as a single discourse makes you go back and revise your interpretation of the first sentence after you've read the second.

  3. According to what i've read in this link https://www.academia.edu/6242951/Morfologi_dengan_Sintaksis_dan_Semantik mention briefly that semantics pertain to morpology but it does not explain in detail how semantics can be related to morpology, please explain what links between semantics and morpology ?

    BalasHapus
    Balasan
    1. Hii amel, thanks for visit my blog.I will answer your question. Morphology is word structure. Semantics is meaning. So the meaning of complex words is built up through morphology: this can be considered part of or related to lexical semantics, especially for derivational affixes (do > undo, redo, etc.)

    BalasHapus
    Balasan
    1. Hai elena,i will answer your question. Semantics involves the deconstruction of words, signals, and sentence structure. It influences our reading comprehension as well as our comprehension of other people's words in everyday conversation. Semantics play a large part in our daily communication, understanding, and language learning without us even realizing it.

      For example, in everyday use, a child might make use of semantics to understand a mom's directive to "do your chores" as, "do your chores whenever you feel like it." However, the mother was probably saying, "do your chores right now."

      Since meaning in language is so complex, there are actually different theories used within semantics, such as formal semantics, lexical semantics, and conceptual semantics.

  5. According to Hurford and Heasly (in Ba'dulu, 2001: 25) the traditional view of antonymy which states that antonymy is merely an opposition of meaning is wrong. This view is inadequate, because words may conflict in their meanings differently, and some words have no real resistance.
    So what do you think of this expert's view? Because as we know it looks like the opponent's dead is live but according to the expert this is not real resistance.

    BalasHapus
    Balasan
    1. i don't have any views but An antonym is a word having a meaning opposite to that of another word, such as hot and cold, short and tall. An antonym is the antonym of synonym. Adjective: antonymous. Another word for antonym is counterterm.

      Antonymy is the sense relation that exists between words which are opposite in meaning. Edward Finnegan defines antonymyas "a binary relationship between terms with complementary meanings."
      visit this link https://www.thoughtco.com/what-is-antonym-words-1689110

      Hapus
    2. What is the meaning of antonym for you? Can you explain this in your own language so that you can understand it more easily ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ‘Œ

      Hapus
    3. I think the antonym is the opposite of the word, for example.
      tall : short
      small : large

      Hapus
    4. I think Antonym is a semantic relationship between two units of speech whose meaning expresses the opposite, contradiction, or contrast between one and the other. More simply, an antonym is a word that contradicts the meaning of another word.
      For example.
      Tall : short
      Small : large

      Hapus

      -Thumbs up means great, good.
      -Nodding means yes, respect.

    1. Hi Ester ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿ‘‹ nice too meet you in here...i think,,, Idioms are expressions, words or phrases with figurative meanings. And i think,,, meaning is a semantics claim. So Idiom goes into semantic. that in my opinion,,,sorry y ririn, ๐Ÿ™๐Ÿ™ i answer the Esters question!!!๐ŸŒผ๐ŸŒผ๐ŸŒผ

      Hapus
    2. Ester..... ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿ‘‹ Meaning is a semantic claim. The meaning is divided into several parts, including the meaning of lexical, grammatical, contextual, referential and nonreferential meaning, denotative meaning and connotative meaning, conceptual meaning and associative meaning, meaning of terms and meanings of terms, idioms and proverbs.๐ŸŒผ๐ŸŒผ๐ŸŒผso idioms are part of semantics๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”

      Hapus
    3. Esther should you ask what are the connotative differences with idioms, then I can give opinions, but you ask semantic differences with idioms, so confused answer, I answer as best I can, according to me the difference is the semantic parent while the child idiom is semantic ... ha... ha... ๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜because idioms are part of semantics... What do you think Ririn... ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค” sorry i try answer,,, Esters question in your blog. ๐ŸŒผ๐ŸŒผ๐ŸŒผ

Since you learn about it, what is the function this lesson in our daily life ? Give me the example in our daily life ๐ŸŒธ๐Ÿ˜‰ thank you

      Hapus
    6. Hi Ester,,, ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿ‘‹ hi Ririn,,,, ๐Ÿ‘‹๐Ÿ‘‹ even though the writing is small ,, but I like visiting your blog, not because i am so smart y,,, I'm learning too, i try explain y Ester....as previously learned, that semantics is the study of meaning in a language, if we study a language, we must know what meaning is contained in that language, so that we understand and not misinterpret the meaning in a language. Thank you,,, Ririn,,

      Hapus
    7. For example :
      In the field of education is very important in learning semantics. A teacher, especially a language teacher must study semantics, which aims to explain to students the right meaning in a language. So that students can know the exact meaning in a language. That's i think... ๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”๐Ÿค”

      Hapus
    8. another example:
      ๐Ÿ‘‰In the field of mass media. For a journalist, reporter, etc. are very important in learning semantics aims to make it easier for them to sort and process the right words in providing information to the public,,,๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜œ๐Ÿ˜œ

  39. hi ririn your video is very good but why did you choose semantics as a material for presentations, what is the most unique thing from semantics that made you choose this material

    BalasHapus
  40. Hii farah , i wanna answer your question. I choose semantics as a material because semantics learns about meaning. by studying semantics we can understand the meaning of what other people say.

    BalasHapus

      Minute = kecil
      Minute = 60 detik
      Wind = mengipasi
      Wind = angin
      Back = punggung
      Back = belakang
      Bar = gawang

      When you study semantics you will learn meaning. For that, you must know the definition of meaning.

      Hapus
    2. When you study semantics, you will learn meaning. For that, you must know the definition of meaning.
      can you explain the definition of the meaning?

      Hapus
    3. Mansoer Pateda (2001: 79) suggests the meaning of the term meaning to represent words and inviting terms. This meaning is always integrated into the words and sentences. According to Ullman (in Mansoer Pateda, 2001: 82) suggests the meaning of the relationship with meaning with understanding.

  49. Ririn, what's your reason choose your semantic as your topic? Is difficult to learn semantic?

    BalasHapus
    Balasan
    1. Because semantics study about meaning, and I think it's very fun.

      Hapus
  50. And can you explain about semantics for making me interesting for this topic? Use your own words hehe ๐Ÿ˜

    BalasHapus
    Balasan
    1. Semantics is study about meaning.
      For example the red color on the flag of the Red and White is a symbol of "courage", and white is a symbol of "purity".

      Hapus
  51. What's another topic do you like beside semantics? And explain why do you like that topic, thankyou :)

    BalasHapus
    Balasan
    1. I don't think so, because semantics are very easy to understand, for example
      The meaning of
      *polysemy is a word or phrase with different, but related sense

      E.g
      wood:
      > a place of tree
      > a geographical area with many
      trees

    BalasHapus
